Dr. Barış Esen

Dr. Barış Esen is a distinguished urologist, academic physician, and rising international leader in urologic oncology. Born in Antalya, Türkiye, he currently serves as a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Urology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, while maintaining his academic appointment as Instructor in the Department of Urology at Koç University School of Medicine in Istanbul.

Dr. Esen earned his medical degree with honors from Hacettepe University and completed his residency in urology at Ankara University School of Medicine. He later pursued advanced fellowship training in urologic oncology and research at Koç University School of Medicine, supported by the prestigious European Urological Scholarship Programme.

Recognized for both clinical excellence and academic achievement, Dr. Esen has received numerous honors, including multiple Best Oral Presentation Awards, international research grants, and the European Board of Urology Fellowship (FEBU) designation. Earlier in his academic career, he ranked among the top students nationally in Türkiye's university entrance examinations.

Dr. Esen's research focuses primarily on prostate cancer, advanced imaging, robotic surgery, and innovative treatment strategies in urologic oncology. He has authored or co-authored dozens of peer-reviewed scientific publications in leading journals and has presented his work at major international conferences including the American Urological Association, European Association of Urology, and American Society of Clinical Oncology.

In addition to his scientific work, Dr. Esen is part of the growing collaboration between Emory University and Koç University Hospital through the Mona & Philip Sunshine Symposium, strengthening academic exchange and advancing global cancer care partnerships. Known for his intellect, discipline, and commitment to innovation, Dr. Esen represents the next generation of physician-scientists advancing the future of urologic oncology.
