Dr. J. Edson Pontes is the J. Edson Pontes, M.D. Distinguished Endowed Chair in Men's Health and former Chairman of the Department of Urology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit.

Born in Fortaleza, Brazil in 1941, he has held faculty positions at Wayne State since 1971, with prior appointments at SUNY Buffalo's Roswell Park Memorial Unit and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is a recognised pioneer in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of prostate cancer.
